See and Be Seen is a two-day, “one-stop shop” for high school students and their parents to explore college dance programs and learn about careers in dance. High school students can audition for and learn about college dance programs throughout Michigan and the United States in ONE place!

MEET OUR PANELISTS

  • Dr. Karageanes is a primary care sports medicine physician at Restorative Physical

    Medicine in Novi, Michigan. He serves as the Official Company Physician for Eisenhower Dance Detroit as well as, as President-Elect of the American Academy of Orthopedic Medicine and was past-president of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine. He serves on the editorial board of the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine and is clinical assistant professor at both Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and Wayne State University School of Medicine. He was editor-in-chief of the textbook Principles of Manual Sports Medicine and producer of the multimedia (video and most photography) for Osteopathic Clinical Joint Exam. Dr. Karageanes is also one of the first physicians in the United States certified in performing arts medicine by the Performing Arts Medical Association. He is a founding member of Athletes and the Arts and co-hosts their regular podcast, Athletes and the Arts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/athletes-and-the-arts/id1561480308).

    He also serves on the credentialing committee of the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science, and the Executive Board of the Bridge Dance Project. He works regularly with the University of Michigan Dance Department, ConteXture Dance Company, Inferno Dance Company, Juliana’s Academy of Dance, Wayne State University Department of Theater and Dance, and numerous other dance studios across Michigan.

    Preventing abuse in dance has been his ongoing passion for many years. He serves as

    President of Nonprofit Education and Advocacy in Movement Artists, a group that works to stop abusive practices and provide resources for studios and companies. He also works on the Personal Safety in Dance International Work Group with whom he was recently published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine about dancer abuse.

    Recently, he was the Keynote Speaker at the Pas De Deux Dance Photography conference in Chicago speaking on protecting dancers from abuse during photo shoots and on social media, and at the Denver Ballet Guild Young Dancer Competition on keeping dancers healthy.

    Outside of performing arts medicine, Dr. Karageanes has spent many years as a filmmaker and photographer. After studying and performing at Second City Detroit for 3.5 years, he produced, wrote, and directed numerous award-winning short films, screen dances, and feature films (“Needlestick”), as well as a sold-out theatrical play run (“Hollywood Positive”) at Go Comedy in Ferndale. At the 2010 Action on Film Festival in Pasadena California, he won Best Actor-short film for “Pink Slip”. As a photographer, he also does photo shoots and films interviews all over the country. He’s most pleased with his total solar eclipse pics from 2024.

  • Janice Chirio is a seasoned Senior Financial Aid Advisor and Team Lead at Herzing University, where she has spent over a decade guiding students and families through the often-overwhelming process of funding a college education. With a strong background in federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs, Janice is known for her ability to simplify complex information and provide clear, supportive guidance at every step.

    In her role at Herzing University, Janice works closely with prospective students—particularly high school seniors and their families—to help them understand their financial aid options, from FAFSA completion and loan counseling to scholarships, grants, and strategic financial planning. She leads a team of dedicated advisors, ensuring that each family receives timely, personalized, and accurate information tailored to their unique circumstances.

    Janice’s passion for education and student success shines through in every interaction. Families appreciate her warm, approachable demeanor, her attention to detail, and her deep commitment to helping students overcome financial barriers to higher education. Her goal is not only to provide answers but to build confidence, reduce stress, and empower families to make informed decisions that set students up for long-term success.

    Whether hosting financial aid workshops, meeting one-on-one with students, or mentoring new advisors on her team, Janice brings professionalism, empathy, and a steadfast dedication to student achievement.

  • Grace Derocha is a registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator and  health coach. She loves helping others learn how to live a healthier and happier lifestyle. Grace was born and raised in Michigan. She attended Michigan State University (Go Green!) and received two bachelors of science degrees in dietetics and psychology and a bonus dance specialization certificate. She also completed her dietetic internship at MSU. Grace later received her MBA focusing in marketing and management from Wayne State University. Grace is proud to be one of the national spokespeople for The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Grace grew up dancing and now gets to be a dance mom. Grace is a provider for Doctors for Dancers and has the honor and pleasure to speak locally at a variety of dance studios, along with traveling to places like the CLI Conservatory and being the dietitian for the Nicholson Twins Wonder Workshops. Grace is passionate about educating dancers on how to nourish and fuel their bodies and minds to be the best athletic artists they can be.

  • Kyra Hauck, Paris Artistic Director of Danse Theatre Surreality, is a pluri-disciplinary choreographer, dancer, and teacher living in Paris, where she has been creating since 2017. Her work is dynamic, challenging, and feminist. She has choreographed and performed in works in Paris, Lille, New York, Chicago, and Detroit. Kyra has trained in styles ranging from classical ballet to contemporary and modern dance to contact improvisation with master teachers throughout the United States and Europe. A holistic healer and experienced teaching artist, she brings this rich blending of movement styles, a deep understanding of the body in motion, and an eye for energy to her work. The company's latest work, Shadowboxing in Blue (2024), was developed in residency at Haven Boxing Gym in Brooklyn, NY in October before touring to Paris in June 2025, hosted by VPunch Gym's VPunchline Festival on boxing and mental health.

  • Jordyn Kahler, LPC, R-DMT, RYT, is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Registered Dance/Movement Therapist, and Registered Yoga Teacher with a deep commitment to holistic healing. Drawing from a rich background in dance, movement, somatic psychotherapy, creative expression, and embodied mindfulness, Jordyn supports individuals in reconnecting with themselves through movement, breath, and presence. Her work integrates traditional therapeutic approaches with somatic and expressive arts practices, creating space for healing that honors both mind and body. Jordyn has experience working across clinical, educational, and community settings, and she is passionate about making mental health care more accessible and embodied. Jordyn is a former student of Eisenhower Dance Detroit (formerly Eisenhower Dance Ensemble) and is thrilled to be invited back to be part of Seen and Be Seen 2025.

  • Robert's dance journey began in Pennsylvania at Allegheny Ballet Company. He continued his training at the Houston Ballet Professional Division before joining Ballet West as a trainee. Now a dancer with Nevada Ballet Theatre, Robert has performed lead roles in works by George Balanchine, Ben Stevenson, Nicolo Fonte, Septime Webre, Trey Mcintyre, and more.  His favorites have been Scarecrow in Septime Webre’s Wizard of Oz & Siegfried in Ben Stevenson’s Swan Lake.

    In addition to his dance career, Robert is pursuing a Business Major at Penn State World Campus. Drawing on his education and passion for dance, he founded BalletScout, a comprehensive database for dancers seeking auditions, training programs, and jobs. His aim is to streamline information and applications, providing a centralized network for the dance community.

  • Kelly Hale has the honor of helping people move beyond stress, anxiety & overwhelm to reconnect to JOY, & find the EASE in life through somatic movement practices that tap into the wisdom of the nervous system. 

    Her work is informed by 25 years as an Occupational Therapist, and Pilates practitioner with many certifications and training in unique areas such as Dance Medicine, Brain Gym, reflex integration, gut health and more!  She brings a unique, synergistic approach that goes beyond the diagnosis and functional deficits to examine the true root causes such as “tripped-up” reflexes, cranial-sacral system disruption, and an un-INtegrated nervous system.

    Kelly enJOYs supporting performing artists via prehab, rehab and programs for performance anxiety.  Her work empowers the mental & physical health of various artists using structural exercises, developmental movements, sensory integration & emotional regulation tools.

    She has owned a Holistic Rehab and Pilates practice since 2001. Kelly is a highly sought out conference presenter & keynote speaker. She lives in metro Detroit with her husband, daughter, rescue hounds and an ever-expanding collection of house plants.  She still enjoys dancing, especially tap at this stage of life, as it’s great for the brain!
